For a 200-square-meter flagship store – open daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM – of a renowned retail brand, VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia implemented an advanced energy monitoring project by integrating the Xsona Energy solution with environmental and occupancy data detection devices.
This approach enabled the optimization of energy consumption management and the identification of inefficiencies, supporting the client in reducing operational costs and enhancing environmental sustainability.
Real-Time Monitoring and Load Analysis
The intervention focused on the Main Low Voltage Panel (MLVP), monitoring both total consumption and the breakdown of major energy loads:
- HVAC System (Air-to-Water Heat Pump)
- LED Wall
- Indoor Lighting
- Power System (FM – Forza Motrice)
Thanks to the advanced sensors of the Xsona Energy solution, integrated with specific devices for monitoring outgoing currents, it was possible to aggregate and analyze lighting and power system loads, providing the client with a clear and detailed overview of energy consumption.
Advanced Analysis from the Control Room
The monitoring conducted by the Control Room of VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia included various analytical phases:
- Monthly Consumption Comparison, based on measuring kWh and their variation over time;
- Weekly Consumption Heatmaps, to identify the days and time slots with higher energy usage intensity;
- Daily Average Consumption Analysis (kWh/day), to assess operational efficiency across different months;
- Detailed Consumption Breakdown by Load, aimed at identifying the most impactful sources and optimizing major energy loads.
Initial Results and Targeted Interventions
From the very first month of monitoring, data analysis highlighted abnormal consumption outside operating hours.
By cross-referencing this information with environmental data, it was determined that the HVAC system remained active even during closing hours.
Identifying this inefficiency led to a prompt intervention, optimizing the management of the HVAC system and ensuring automatic shutdown during non-operational hours.
The results were tangible:
- Reduction of after-hours consumption, positively impacting overall efficiency;
- Lower operational costs, thanks to more conscious energy management;
- Improved environmental sustainability, by reducing energy waste and the store’s carbon footprint.
Reliable Forecasts in Reduced Timeframes
One of the most significant aspects of the project was the speed at which the consumption prediction algorithm was trained.
In just two months, the data collected by Xsona Energy sensors and processed by the Xsona IoT platform generated a highly accurate predictive model, with a difference between predicted and actual consumption of only 80 kWh by the third month.
This result enabled the client to plan proactively and optimize energy resource utilization.
Final Evaluations
The Xsona Energy solution, with its advanced monitoring and consumption prediction capabilities, proved to be an essential tool for optimizing energy management in a retail environment.
Through a combination of IoT technologies, advanced analytics, and targeted interventions, the project supported the client in enhancing operational efficiency and adopting a more sustainable approach.
